B ermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) is a quasi autonomous,non-government organization established under the Bermuda Hospital BoardAct of 1970.It is comprised of the King EdwardVII Memorial Hospital (KEMH),theMid-At- lanticWellness Institute (MWI),and the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre.Itsmandate is to provide acute medical,emergency,long term,andmental health care, as well as learning disabilityand substance abuse ser- vices for Bermuda residents.BHB is funded bywayof direct payments,insurance,donations,and government subsidies.With approximately1,800 employees,it is Bermuda’s second largest employer. BHB is governed bya Board appointed by the Gov- ernment on behalf of the people of Bermuda.The Board’s fundamental objectives are: to enhance and preserve long-termvalue,to ensure the hospital meets its obligations on an ongoing basis: and to see that the hospital operates in a reliable and safemanner. KEMHprovides the island’s onlyEmergencyDe- partment,acute inpatient and surgical services.
