Business View Caribbean | April 2019

48 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN APRIL 2019 were destroyed and we were forced to relocate to the north of the island to our present location at Port Little Bay. Our current jetty is not fit for purpose as the gateway to the country. The Government of Montserrat is about to break ground on a major upgrade project to provide breakwater and extended berth facilities. Technical consultants have been engaged and are looking at the preferred layouts and concepts. We expect that the new facility will be open and ready for service in 18 to 24 months. The major funding is in place and, as such, we do not expect any delays in implementation. Our existing berth will remain in use. The new breakwater and berth development will take place just north of the existing finger pier. The acquisition of about four acres of private property to facilitate the development is ongoing.” Has tourism come back to where it should be?
