It’s a small world in this industry and people get to know you over time. “There is always a shortage of quality workers on the island, that’s another challenge. Hence the reason we want to keep who we know. Our indus- try is not ‘sexy’– it doesn’t attract the best talent, so that’s why we’ve tried to create a stable envi- ronment to slowly increase the quality of employ- ees we get. There’s a sense that it’s a favorable place to work and we are attracting better and better talent, but the fact is, here and around the world, there is a problem of attracting younger people in the mining industry.” BVM: What are the future objectives for Wil- rock? Wilson: “Well, the construction sector fluctu- ates. So, the business we’re in is the essence of the industry. There is no construction without aggregate; and once there is construction going on in a country there are avenues for business. We’ve positioned ourselves for regional business, and we are equipped and ready to serve anytime opportunities arise. “As far as the quarry property, itself, the long- term plan is for some sort of restoration. The land may be used for possible alternative recreational activities or unique construction. For example, there was a luxury hotel built in China on a re- tired quarry, so there are many possibilities as the years elapse. Or I can use it as a landfill.
