It always takes me a few weeks to get adjusted to writing down the New Year when scribing anything that requires a full date. So, unfortunately, I’ve already seen some checks returned, and some scheduled meetings unattended as a result of my still using 2016 to identify a year that is going to simply crush the achievements of the past one. Now, I don’t want to claim that I know how your 2016 wound up, or how your 2017 will run its course. However, as a person who loves the scientific complexity of numbers and the projections, information, and conclu- sions that they can determine, please allow me to take a stab at it. As I understand it, numbers all have a symbolic, interpretive representation. The number 1 means - any guesses??? Right! The beginning. An embarking. A new mission. The Number 2 represents purpose, plan implementation, etc. Numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, each have their own identity and definitions, and so forth. That being said, the principle is to use basic math to achieve a 1 digit number between 1–9,and then study the possible interpretations of that number to see how it maymost relate to you.Well, doing the math, the year 2016 added up to 9 (2+0+1+6).As I understand it,the number 9 represents the end,a completion to a mission. A journey, that has,or is coming to a close. This is neither good nor bad, it just is. You could’ve been enduring a journey of bad de- cisions that made 2016 almost unbearable. Or perhaps, the opposite could be true. Your business has just reached the culmination of its mission, and completed the goals that were set some odd years ago. In either sce- nario, you both are in the refreshing position of knowing that 2017 ads up to the number 1 (2+0+1+7 = 10 and reduced by adding up 1 + 0 = 1). And again, what does the number 1 represent??? Right! The beginning. An embarking. A new mission. People in gen- eral, but also executives and businesses as a whole, often make new plans every year. So now just may be the time to devise a new plan or embark upon a new journey or mis- sion– especially when the actual calendar is urging you to do so, and standing by in a support role to see you through it. Ok, now that I’m through performing my second-rate carnival act,“Meet the Swami,” I really would like to encourage you to address 2017 with a fresh new plan. If 2016 was not favorable for you, no worries, 2017 is literally a whole new ball game. Scrap the last plan. Grab the chalk board, and mark some brand new x’s and o’s on it for you and your business to grow into the future. And if 2016 was one of those years that you wish to duplicate in 2017, then just realize that it’s a whole new ball game for you too. Don’t just keep running the plays that you ran last year, because they worked. Look at those things that worked, and write up a whole new game plan using those same practices, and I predict that you’ll easily surpass the goals that were set based upon the plan of attack that was devised prior to this New Year. While the finish line of a race is a destination that a plan seeks to reach, it’s always the beginning that offers the most hope. So, here’s to 2017, and all that we plan to achieve. Until next time, plan, build, and continue to prosper.
