GHANA JOINS SURINAME-GUYANA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LED INITIATIVE Source: https://www.caribbeantoday.com/, News, First Published October 10, 2024 A landmark bilateral business collaboration between the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) and other bilateral chambers between Guyana, Canada and the Dominican Republic (DR) continues to expand, with Ghana Chamber of Commerce Guyana (GCCG) officially joining the initiative. The new partnership was solidified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday during the International Business Conference held here. The agreement was spearheaded by the Chairman of the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Vishnu Doerga, who emphasized the importance of a unified platform for bilateral business chambers in Guyana. “We can’t have all chambers creating redundancy and leaving gaps,” Doerga said during the signing ceremony. “The aim is to establish a better platform for information sharing, ensuring that all chambers have access to the same type of information,” Doerga added. “This will help smooth the process of organizing meetings with foreign missions and facilitate a collaborative approach to bringing investment to Guyana.” Ghana’s involvement is particularly significant, as the country is seen as a gateway to the West African region, offering valuable opportunities for trade, investment, and economic collaboration. which extends far beyond resources and opportunities,” she said. “Today, we are not just discussing trade; we are laying the foundation for a future based on the principles of collaboration and shared prosperity.” In addition to Ghana’s inclusion, the SGCC has also signed MoUs with several regional chambers, including the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association, the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Region Five Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These agreements highlight the growing network of business entities committed to fostering regional trade and investment. “We are united in our mission to bring investment to Guyana,” noted. “Ghana brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that we can learn from, especially in sectors like agro-processing and renewable energy, where both countries are on a progressive path. “This is truly a win-win situation for all involved.” Ghana, Doerga said, is an attractive partner for business chambers in the Caribbean and Latin America. Marcia Krager, the Office Manager of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration. “It is a privilege to be part of this economic alliance, 8 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10
Source: https://www.caribbeantoday.com/, News, First Published October 18, 2024 Suriname and Guyana have taken the first step towards achieving the joint exploitation of gas reserves off the coast of the two neighboring Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries. “It won’t happen tomorrow, but it is important that we now have confirmation from both sides that we want to work together. It could take years before we have found a development concept,” Staatsolie director, Annand Jagesar, told the ‘de Ware Tijd’ newspaper. SURINAME AND GUYANA MOVE TOWARD JOINT EXPLOITATION OF GAS RESERVES OPENING LINES Jagesar was in Guyana as part of a Suriname delegation that included Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation Minister, Albert Ramdin that met with Guyana’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo. Jagesar told the newspaper that the two countries will jointly examine a development concept to make exploitation of certain reservoirs of gas condensates feasible. He said this concerns the Makka and Kwaskwasi discoveries in Suriname close to the border with Guyana and the Haimara and Pluma discoveries in Guyana, which is also close to the border. 9 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10
“The biggest asset of a collaboration is scale. By merging, the scale could be achieved. But many other issues will also have to be investigated,” Jagesar said. Ramdin said that the meeting in Guyana “took place in a very pleasant and open atmosphere,” and that both countries recognize the importance of cooperation in the field of gas. He said there are possibilities and the two countries will tackle them together with Staatsolie with the state-owned oil company now engaged in exchanging information with the authorities in Guyana at a technical and business level and record what the joint potential is. Ramdin said based on this, strategies and scenarios will be made on how the intended cooperation can take shape. “In any case, this will have a high priority in the coming two to three months and the intention of this conversation was to clearly agree at government level that this must be part of the strategic cooperation in oil and gas between Suriname and Guyana.” He said the technical details will be discussed in the coming weeks. Immediately after Staatsolie, TotalEnergies and Apache Corporation announced on 1 October that the final investment decision (FID) for the production of oil reserves in Block 58 had been taken, Jagdeo contacted the Surinamese government, requesting that discussions be held soon about jointly exploiting the gas reserves of the two neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, Staatsolie is moving towards a second FID, namely in Block 52, where Malaysian Petronas has discovered recoverable oil reserves. There are reports that Malaysian Petronas has found an amount equal to more than 400 million barrels of oil there, allowing for a project that would utilsie 100,000 barrels of oil daily. Last week, Staatsolie began discussions with Petronas to get this project off the ground and Jagesar explained that they could announce the FID as early as 2027 and begin oil production in Block 52 by 2030. Jagesar said that, with technical adjustments, Petronas could potentially use a floating production, storage, and offloading unit they already have for the intended project. This would allow production to start sooner. Large quantities of natural gas have also been found in this block. Staatsolie and Petronas are also negotiating about this and the aim is to get the first gas development off the ground as early as 2031. 10 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10

S T AvenueWest Global, an award-winning provider of corporate housing and real estate services, has become a standout leader in property management, setting the industry standard with its innovative approach and exceptional service. Throughout its 25-year history, AvenueWest has focused on scalable growth by embracing new technology and data-driven decisionmaking. However, it is their dedicated team and clientcentered approach that truly sets them apart. How AvenueWest is capitalizing on emerging trends and premiere service to drive global expansion Location: Scottsdale, AZ 14 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10
Today, AvenueWest is a globally-recognized brand with a reputation for excellence, a loyal client base, and a thriving network of employees. Everyone at the company understands that their efforts contribute to a lasting legacy of reliability and innovation in property management, setting a high bar in the industry that will continue to stand the test of time. A CULTURE OF SERVICE DRIVEN BY PASSION Founded in 1999 in Denver, AvenueWest started as a small real estate agency with a unique focus: fully furnished corporate housing tailored for midterm stays ranging from 30 days to several years. Leveraging well-established relationships, AvenueWest placed corporate tenants in need of temporary housing in vetted properties, while also managing those properties on behalf of the owners. This dual role allowed them to ensure seamless management and maintenance, enhancing the experience for both owners and tenants. The model quickly proved to be successful, emphasizing the demand for reliable, turnkey property management solutions. Over the years, AvenueWest has continued to expand, now with 17 offices across the United States and properties in over 200 cities worldwide. AvenueWest also began its expansion into international markets last year, successfully placing clients in Europe and Asia. This year, the company proudly made its sixth appearance on the Inc. 5000 list, highlighting its exceptional growth and innovation. At the heart of AvenueWest’s property management success is a deeply rooted service-oriented culture. “Most of the people that we hire have a passion for hospitality because we’re serving our clients 24/7,” says Owner and CEO Angela Healy, highlighting the demands this level of service requires of her team. AvenueWest understands that corporate relocation can be inherently stressful, so they strive to alleviate that burden for its employees, clients, and their families. The average cost of a relocation is $65,000, which explains why 40% of them fail. “Anything that we can do to ensure a successful relocation for our clients, we are going to jump in 15 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10 AVENUEWEST
and do. Every one of our employees fully embraces that service mindset. We provide white glove service, every time,” says Healy. The company’s dedication extends beyond finding a suitable property—it encompasses everything from matching clients with the right community, ensuring access to good schools, helping spouses find employment, and addressing any needs that arise during the relocation. This commitment to going above and beyond for their clients defines AvenueWest’s approach, and has fostered a work environment where employees see their roles as meaningful careers rather than just jobs. STANDING OUT WITH INDUSTRY INNOVATION AvenueWest distinguishes itself in the property management industry by offering fully furnished, high-quality homes, condos, and townhomes instead of standard apartments. Each property is meticulously maintained to ensure high standards of cleanliness and readiness for incoming tenants. The company’s reservation agents are trained to identify the unique needs of each client, including yard requirements, pet accommodations, and proximity to desired amenities. This personalized approach is a hallmark of AvenueWest’s white-glove service, setting them apart from competitors. One of the unique aspects of AvenueWest’s service is its focus on mid term rentals - a niche market that fills the gap between short-term vacation rentals and long-term leases.Traditionally, corporate rentals have averaged around 99 days, making this an ideal solution for many corporate clients. “Cities are moving away from short-term rentals because they’ve realized the surge of AirBnb’s has contributed to the housing shortage. They’re now working to bring inventory back into the mid- and long-term rental market,” Healy explains. The growing demand for mid-term rentals is a key driver of AvenueWest’s growth. As new regulations limit the profitability of short-term rentals, many property owners are turning to AvenueWest to transition their properties into this expanding market. They offer a viable solution for owners who Location: Fort Collins, CO 16 BUSINESS VIEW CARIBBEAN VOLUME 11, ISSUE 10
want to maintain furnished, profitable properties while complying with local regulations. Another unique factor of AvenueWest’s operational model is its dual-customer approach, catering to both property owners and corporate tenants. For property owners, AvenueWest conducts a thorough evaluation process to assess whether their properties meet the company’s standards, focusing on safety, amenities, and overall condition. For corporate clients, a dedicated team ensures that properties align with the specific needs, reinforcing the company’s reputation for exceptional service. AvenueWest’s ability to connect property owners with corporate tenants is enhanced by its extensive network of corporate relationships, making them an attractive partner for those looking to navigate the mid-term rental landscape. AvenueWest has also advanced its property management capabilities by implementing cuttingedge software and creating a robust digital presence to capture new market opportunities and prioritize secure and convenient operational practices. By doing so, they have built a strong identity that resonates with homeowners and tenants worldwide. The company utilizes proprietary internal software to manage operations and track property reservations, maintenance requests, and tenant needs. This technology enables them to uphold its high service standards, and is a reason they are trusted by corporations. AN ADAPTABLE BUSINESS MODEL WITH A BRIGHT FUTURE OUTLOOK The company’s ability to adapt to changing market conditions is a testament to its strong leadership and forward-thinking strategy. Even during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, AvenueWest seized opportunities to support corporate clients and their employees, facilitating moves from urban centers to safer environments.
