Trade Minister Urges Private Sector to Take
Bold and Decisive Actions that Will Lay a New
Foundation for Sustainable Economic Growth
Speaking at the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of In-
dustry and Commerce’s Quarterly Breakfast Meet-
ing on Wednesday, November25, 2015, Senator the
Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade
and Industry, noted that the Government’s ability to
rely solely on fiscal policy to drive economic growth
is limited and greater private sector investment into
the economy is urgently needed.
As the first Ministerial guest of the Chamber, the
Trade and Industry Minister in delivering the feature
address, said, “Driving economic growth through
the development of the non-energy sector is not a
phenomenon that is unique to Trinidad and Tobago.
Notwithstanding the fact that the challenges we
currently face seem daunting, we must be willing to
convert these challenges into opportunities for the
