Council of Jamaica (UCJ) and is currently a member of
the Consortia of Universities, the American Council on
Education (ACE), and the Organization of the American
States (OAS).
Under Dr. Adams’ stewardship, a group of new com-
panies under the UCC umbrella has been launched.
This development has seen the college integrate verti-
cally while opening up new revenue streams. The UCC
Group of Companies comprises Global Knowledge Pro-
cess Solutions (a business process outsourcing entity);
UCC Financial Services; UCC Real Estate Investment
Ltd. and Caribbean Energy Management Solutions (a
renewable energy subsidiary).
In addition, UCC is franchising its business model
throughout the Caribbean and beyond so that entre-
preneurs and organizations can replicate its success-
es in their own locations. “We’re integrating the busi-
ness vertically – that’s unique,” Adams says. “We’re
franchising – no other institution is doing that. We’re
thinking outside the box.”
Taking advantage of one of the more lucrative areas
earmarked for development by the Government of Ja-
maica - edu-tourism, UCC is partnering with JAMPRO
to develop its product through its Expo-Max initiative.
JAMPRO is an agency of the Ministry of Industry, In-
vestment, and Commerce that promotes business op-
portunities in export and investment to the local and
international private sectors.
Not only will the University be offering tailor-made pro-
grams for this market, it is also partnering with a major
real estate developer to create the Caribbean Knowl-
edge City (CKC), Jamaica’s first university town. The
10-acre site conveniently located at the heart of an ex-
pansive and modern 1,400 home residential commu-
nity in the Parish of Trelawny (the home parish of Usain
Bolt) will be the home of UCC’s western regional cam-
pus focused on Tourism and Hospitality, and Health
and Wellness. Plans for the CKC also include a UCC-
owned hotel which will offer complementary services
and amenities.
